Sony Blocks Aussie Jailbreak

One the greatest things about the Sega Dreamcast was the huge community of homebrewers. Apparently Sony will have none of that. They have recently succeeded in blocking Jailbreak which would allow for homebrewing in the PS3. Sony Homebrew won't be for you

Wings Of Liberty: Raves And Rips

Critics and Gamers are already at each others throats just after the release of the much anticipated sequel to 1998's Starcraft. LINK

Despite the fact that I have not played this game I do have to wholeheartedly agree with Amazon's Neosplicer that single player campaigns are getting downsized in favor of multiplayer content. Too many developers are releasing partial games with lame single player features. It seems I'm not the proverbial urine-drinking hermit all alone in the wilderness in my feeling that this is a copout by unimaginative or just plain lazy developers catering almost exclusively to the online multiplayer crowd. Multiplayer mode is fine. Don't get me wrong on this. But it's kind of like selling box Mac n' Cheese with just the cheese powder and no pasta. Developers = FAIL.

Terabyte Out Of Stress: Video Games Relax

Well Texas A&M is actually good for something other than destroying lives and careers, undermining faculty senates, treating satellite schools like a red headed stepchild's best friend with a learning disability, and kicking puppies. TA&M International has just finished a study that indicates that playing video games, particularly violent ones, actually aids in easing stress. It would seem to contradict the notion that violent video games turns everyone into tightly wound unreasoning violent anti-social psychopaths hell bent on destroying the innocent in a delusional quest for whatever tightly wound unreasoning delusional violent anti-social psychopaths quest for.

A New Name of the Game?

Players of MMORPG leviathan World of Warcraft are putting Blizzard games in their collective doghouse over a proposed plan to require real names for chat purposes. Those black gummy globules you see washing up on Texas/Mexican Gulf coast aren't from the oil spill. Thats the **** hitting the fan from the fallout from this proposal. MMORPGeez Loueeez

Back when I was playing Everquest I had hear rumors of something like this. Nothing shakes malcontents out of the woodwork faster than threatening their anonymity. A large segment of MMORPG players play these games for just this reason. Threatening privacy is a can of worms best not opened. If a legislator is pushing this, or is being pushed into this, than that legislator has to show some cajones to his "constituency" or be voted out by people who aren't. 2 cents submitted.

No, this is not a thread about the sequel to perhaps the greatest buddy cop movies ever made. This is about the findings of a recent study which uncovers some of America's most extreme gamers and the hours they rack up to earn their way in the exclusive 4%. These gamers have been reported to average 7 hours of playing every day in any given week.

Here are their numbers: Komputer Welt

I program my home computer
Beam myself into the future

Musique rythmique
Son electronique
L'art politique
A l'age atomique

Electric Cafe

Crackdown: Used Games

Game devs are at war with game re-sellers. Some of their tactics you may be familiar with. LINK

Here's how it boils down. Used game re-selling is a $2B industry. Mostly because many regard the launch prices for many titles to be too much of an investment, sometimes reaching $50+. Buying used sometimes well past the launch date makes a lot of dollars and cents to a lot of gamers. However developers have made it harder on gamers who buy used from re-sellers because lots of titles have exclusive content that can only be accessed if bought retail or if the original passcodes are obtained. The former can be out of the question for many gamers and the latter can be nearly impossible.
