So I started playing dodgeball during the week and never played it until recently. In fact I thought it was just a funny film. Anyway I love it. Mainly because i'm actually not too bad at it and alot better than I am at football.

Anyone else play dodgeball or used to play dodgeball?

The weakest part of my game is my throw. Just can't seem to get any speed behind the ball and tonight the team just killed us. Catching anything that wasn't bounced on the floor in front of them.

I think we need to train with wrenches tongue.gif

You never played dodgeball before? First time I played was sometime in elementary school, maybe even kindergarten, not sure. It was even a part of PE class. I liked playing it back then and I suppose I would enjoy playing it again now but I do think that I'd get bored of it fairly quick.

So you do this on a competitive level?

I grew up playing dodge ball. I was a skinny kid and quite nimble. Hard to hit. Now I'm flabby but still quite spry when the conditions are right.

Great flick btw.

Oh ya dodgeball is awesome. I've played a fair amount over the years. During different events and what not.

You gotta play with those gator balls, getting hit with a kickball could cause some serious damage.

Hmm. Clearly every other country in the world plays dodgeball in school. We never did. It was all football, cricket and rugby. I used to be a hell of a lot better at football, but during my teenage years my once stout and stocky build as a kid became a long gangly mess.

No my feet just don't feel connected sometimes, so my ball skills are non existent. i've always had better hand eye coordination anyway.

Last night we won, although I ashamedly lost my rag quite badly at one point, so had to take a moment to chill as I don't want to take it too seriously. Gotta work on my throw though, i can either get it fast or accurate, but not much of both yet.

Yeah love rounders. I played rounders whilst half drunk at a summer party the other week. I was surprisingly more accurate the more I drank. I hit nearly every nearby tree there and a few people too.

There was one moment when I had to go fetch a well hit ball and I picked it up, turned around and launched it at the nearest base keeper.

It didn't make it. Not because my throw was pathetic, but because it hit the batter in the head as he was running for home. LOL.

Oh something similar happened to me.

We were playing softball (its actually quite hard lol), I was at last base waiting to run. The guy who was batting hit towards me, it hit me in the side of head, I fell over, got back up then ran 'home' and then sat down behind our team and said 'ouch!'

I'm sure the americans would have called it football if it hadn't already been used by one of their own sports. Though I do get confused why they called a game that mainly involves holding or throwing a ball, football.

Also, why call it softball, if it isn't soft.

I think americans just like to be difficult or ironic or something. coolio.gif

I imagine we called it football because every other game that used a ball, (such as baseball, bowling, tennis, billiards, basketball, golf etc. etc.) played in the US, feet were not used to manipulate it. By the time soccer/football caught on in America another sport had reserved the name.

When I played in middle school the pads really helped when I was clobbered by one of the fat kids during practice.

In some cases the pads actually make american football more dangerous, because the players run into each other even harder than in games like rugby. Many many spine injuries have resulted of players slamming into each other and although the pads protect their shoulders, it puts extra force on the spine.

It's still a dangerous game, but I just think it's got the wrong name. tongue.gif
