 Now that is f*cking awesome.

Why the hell would it be illegal? I suppose you'd have to ask permission for rocket testing, but not a balloon. Of course, there's a chance it'll get into an airplane's turbine... I guess the chance is small. tongue.gif

Size of the populace is what's the most important. You're walking through a small village? Sure, everyone would notice soon enough. I expect questions being asked (not to you) within 3-5 days. Someone could even approach and ask you directly, if you're walking casually, not hurrying. In a city? Not a chance anyone would notice or care, even if they did.

You know, having played with one in the shop I have to grudgingly admit that the screen and interface is pretty awesome.
There are, however, several problems. It's f****** glossy - I'm not sure why they insist on making glossy screens for nearly all laptops and other portables nowadays, but it's retarded. On top of that, there's all that sh*t about not running Flash, not having multitasking, and in the end I would still prefer a convertible with a proper keyboard and all.

This is sort of like Private Pile from FMJ. I mean, scalding people in hopes that they get on the right track doesn't always work. Sometimes, the results you get... well.

AI and diplomacy could easily be patched I suppose.

Yeah? The Total War developers haven't fixed it since 2000 tongue.gif
Seriously, once the AI has to make tactical decisions involving troop positioning, it just never seems to do the job. As far as I'm seeing in reviews, they have encountered about the same problem as the TW devs (on a much smaller scale, of course).

So I hear it has pretty bad AI, the diplomacy now doesn't really work, and you still can't get epic conflicts out of it. I'm still at least giving it a try, though.

I think it was Noble. The one closest to what you'd call "normal". I was playing IV with all expansion packs... I remember having like a perfect science city (wonders, building upgrades, citizens, all that), and still barely being able to keep up with other civilizations' technologies (okay, I was ahead in some ways, but not enough). Usually if you plan and employ a player tactic, it takes you leaps and bounds in front of the AI. I mean, I thought the fun was in landing somewhere with your giant robots to discover medieval knights and roll over them. There it was more like, everybody was better. It's not entirely unexpected, but I feel uneasy when I see the AI using tactics that I read about in guides (like quickly switching to that policy which allows you to draft troops in case of an emergency).
I also had trouble with specialisation. I get the principle, but the city spots I find are usually meh. Either that, or I find a place with tons of hammers (production), but no food. You know, stuff like that. And of course, in the beginning, new city maintenance costs a lot.

I am planning to start playing it as soon as it comes out, and to make the best of it.

In Civ4, I had a couple of problems... I always have to move at breakneck pace and plan everything and sh*t. It's not bad, but when you realise the AI on Normal is still beating you, it's frustrating. I think I'm going to start a map with me alone on a distant island with resources and sh*t.
It's also overwhelming to read all the guides. Seems like an information overload. Constant manual city management is also a bit overwhelming. I hear that happiness has been somewhat streamlined here, and I'm very, very much looking forward to their new combat.

Oh, don't count on me appearing in MP, though.

(Also, I don't think that it's a problem at the start of the school year... they usually go easy at first, don't they)

So, does most of the chan's fun go down in /b/? I'm serious, there's not much info to be found, except reputation, and articles on ED which aren't exactly the best source for judging which part of the boards is fun. C'mon Chaos, you're the resident expert, what say you?

Well apparently 104% (or simply put around base value) is the sweet spot for profit plus customer satisfaction (and this near pin combo). Apparently when you get a heart with customers, their budget is increased by several times, so the point is getting there, and then reselling them whatever you want. The guide was admittedly based on the demo, though. It gets more freakishly complicated. Oh, the Japanese with their love of combos. Apparently you have to keep this Just Selling combo going on forever, without interruption, to earn massive XP bonuses.
I wish there was a mode where you have no time limits... I know, they're part of the challenge, but I'd simply like to take my time.

If you look around for guides, it turns out that to really get your business going, you're going to have to hit the dungeons from like day 2 (and then meet someone, and apparently go into some dungeon fifteen levels deep). Also apparently selling at 104% helps upgrade your customer relationships. I thought I'd survive for the beginning just reselling stuff from the Merchants, but apparently it's not made to be played that way. I mean, I'm several days away from my second deadline, and I've got around 9k, but there's no way I can get to 30.

Nico doesn't get the finer points of roleplaying tongue.gif
It should be noted that the dialogue is also really well-translated. Recettear is damn addictive, and I think to cope with the increasing amount, you need to go dungeon-crawling yourself.
