Well France has also been one of the most expensive countries when it comes to gas prices. I remember when we went to Spain during the summer holidays we would always get enough gas in Luxembourg to get through France without having to stop for gas.

Depends on where you pick it up though. The price jumps are crazy. If you get it on the paying motorways, it's even more expensive.

Here in Switzerland the situation's weirder though. It's always been the same price as the most expensive petrol. Why? Cause of some very old environmental decree (apparently diesel cars used to be more polluting). At least it's really good quality though. We did a test on that: the difference between a full tank of cheapest diesel in France and a full tank of the one in Switzerland is almost - get this - an entire litre/100km, according to the car's computer. We asked at a maintenance shop and they confirmed it, too.

Diesel cars still are more poluting, less COČ but more other crap. Though it might be better with those filters now.
