Apple has just introduced the most ridiculously thin laptop I have ever seen. I don't just say this because I'm an admitted Apple fanboy. Have a look for yourself.

Thin is In

I can't wait to see the PC/Apple ads that come from this product. Maybe PC will unzip a huge PC bag and haul out some giant monstrosity and Apple just reaches into his shirt and puts out a wafer-thin laptop.

But I kid. As impressive as the dimesions are for the new Macbook are it still comes down to computing power. As much as I am an Apple fanboy, I'm still a pragmatic computer user. This means I look for performance, reliability and utility. The good news is that this laptop can probably hold it's own vs the larger machines. I might be able to afford a lower end model by this Christmas. Although I may go with another Apple laptop, or maybe something else, if I am not happy with what I hear about the Macbook Air by then.

Myeah. I wonder what's next... an mp3 player that looks like a round piece of paper? So thin you can fold it and slip in your pocket. Myeah.

What would they call it though? I know, The iTissue. Be careful and don't blow your nose with it. You could Wipe it's drive.

I look for a god-damn Ethernet port and more than one USB port. A friend of mine raised a good point. His music is all on an external hard drive, and his iPod can only connect to the Macbook Air through USB--so how is he supposed to sync his iPod? He can't connect both at the same time. He'd have to buy a USB hub. I myself can't count how often I use Ethernet or multiple USB ports.

It's very pretty, but once again Apple places form before function. I guess it'll work for Average User, but for me, I need a little more than this thing offers.

Also, what is up with that price? Way too expensive..

Yes, definitely the next logical step. It'd be a cross between the Wiimote and Macbook Air. Just imagine the interactivity!

@JD:

I only see this laptop being picked up by the least demanding crowd. I don't think for a second that it was designed with the heavy duty computer user in mind. (ie) Those one might describe as multi-taskers. People who like to use more than one USB device at the same time in other words.

I would suggest that one pick up a hub if they were to pick one of these up. However if I were Jobs I'd knock about $800 dollars off that price. It seems to me if people can send $100 bare bones laptops to starving kid in Africa, Steve Jobs can afford to market an affordable laptop for average Joes. Yes the nature of the technology market means we can get cheaper and cheaper electronics, but some people act like they're high when they release their product with an insane price tag. Case in point: Playstation 3

I pay for what I buy. What does this machine have? A motherboard and possibly a daughterboard? With onboard graphics and sound? A hard drive? Maybe a few sticks of RAM? Some USB ports and a wireless card? Flat screen monitor? Case, keyboard and mouse? Sounds like a system I could put together for half the price and still have an irresponsible amount of money for software, games and peripherals. And maybe a nifty desk and a chair to sit in. With the money I save with mail-in-rebates I could get a mini fridge and some food. Or I could just deposit it in my checking account. Or cover a window in lieu of mini blinds or a nice sheet of tin foil.

Although if I did have one of these it might be an automatic ice breaker with college chicks. shifty.gif

Look on the brightside with the MacBook Air, you actually get an operating system that works! tongue.gif

Now here's something I'd buy...if it's real, if it were to come out soon enough, and if I had the money for what will undoubtedly be an expensive laptop.

Unfortunately, it's potentially fake, it probably won't be out by the time I need a laptop, and it will definitely be more money than I'm willing to pay.

On the other hand, it will drive down the prices of the X60 and X61. But I sure would like to have an optical drive, an SSD, Bluetooth, WiMax, gigabit Ethernet, the awesome Thinkpad keyboard, and four hours of battery life, all at the same weight as a Macbook Air.
