Thompson countersues Take-Two
Lawyer responds to publisher's lawsuit with accusations of intimidation, obstruction of justice, and violation of his civil rights.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Mar 21, 2007 4:05 pm PT
Last week, Take-Two Interactive filed suit against Florida lawyer Jack Thompson in a preemptive move to keep him from filing his own suits against the publisher to prevent the upcoming releases of its Grand Theft Auto IV and Manhunt 2 games.

Thompson promised to strike back, and today he filed his response to the Take-Two suit, along with a countersuit accusing the publisher of multiple violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), specifically a continued effort to violate his constitutional rights since July of 2005.

No, it's that's not the point. The point stands as is. So in laymans terms, he is actully helping us. The gamers. By doing this he will create a tidel wave of people who are very made at him. The main people will be us. So we go out there in the world and start making games and getting more ideas about how to get around these kind of things.

So he is not killing the gaming idea. But we are gonna re-write it. And find alternative ways around it.

There is rise to the ground.

Well I'm a conservitive myself. Unlike Thompson I'm not going to acquit parents or neglect to hold THEM accountable to how their children behave. People who are all to willing to pass the buck and blame video games, movies or magic pixie trolls for their child's discipline problems. Parents never own up to their missteps. Instead of accepting the blame and trying to re-examine themselves they'll search for an external source, beacause it can't possibly be something they're doing wrong to screw up junior. Can it? Oh it most assuredly can. In fact all discipline problems start with the parents. Thompson, for all his preening, posturing, threatening, and self-congratualtion, has forgotten that the paranoid parents he seeks to represent are almost solely responsible for the saturation and prolifiration of video games across the entire kid spectrum. His entire platform in baseless. Perhaps he can better use his time educating parents about video game ratings, or he can shut his big pie hole.

In one respect I can sympathize with Jack. There are a lot of stupid young parents out there. People who miscalculated juggling life and rearing children. People who are most likely to disregard and underestimate a game rating, or the maturity of their child. People who would be more that happy to carry the torch of the crusade to deflect attention away from their s****y parenting. People who would gladly flock around an arrogant self-promoting delusional blowhard like Jack Thompson.

I like to think I'm reasonable. There are too many unreasonble conservitives and liberals out there. It makes it hard to have a really good conversation. These are people that are waaaay too adept at talking At people, as opposed to taliking To them.

Like I said in the last thread about JT, he's an arrogant self-promoter who lacks any real wisdom. If he wants to limit young children from getting violent video games he can do the following.

1. Work with the gaming developers and distributers to help educate parents about the ratings system.

2. Help parents develop consisitancy and the ability to say no when they are asked to buy violent video games.

3. Help parents coordinate with other parents so they know that their children are not supposed to play these games.

4. Work with retallers to come up with better ways to display mature video games, ratings, and verify age.

5. Positively campaign for reform in the gaming industry whereby changes can more easily be appreciated.

This is just off the top of my head. If Jack hasn't thought of these he's either ignorant of the nature of what he's attacking or he's more interested in Jack Thompson and what's good for Jack.

He has no case and never will.

You can't stop a video game from being made in the U.S.

For sh*t's sake their is a game about assasinating JFK.

And in a few others you kill American Congress members.

So what in the Hell can he possibly do to stop GTA?

Jack sh*t.

He needs to go back to drinking and watching animal porn.

I know what you mean. The kind of people who won't hesitate to fire all their pre-judgements at you, but never really think deep about the things they so solidly believe in. And when you counter their pre-judgements with your ideas and observations, it goes into one ear and out the other.

There are way too many of those people. Solid education and good campaigns are the key to opening those people's minds. Religion is to be avoided, unless it gets analysed properly.
