Hubble Celebrates 15th Year

I was almost 13 when NASA sent that telescope up. I was a big fan of Carl Sagan's Cosmos back then so I was really looking forward to seeing pictures from deep space. I had to wait a while because the mirrors in the telescope had warped on the way up. But once that problem was fixed I, like everyone else on the planet, got to see some of the most breathtaking photos I have ever seen.

Kudos Hubble! Happy 15th!! thumbsup.gif

The pie represents a cake or something. For it's birthday. It's metaphorical. Okay I just liked the title. cry.gif

pity it wont be celebrating its 16th bday. Didnt nasa cut the funding and planning to let it burn up in the atmosphere?

i dont usualy belive those snaps the hubble has taken. cause the colour is been put by the nasa chaps. All the pics taken are B&W, the colours are added later.

but i must say, we got a beautiful universe. Trully magnificent and mesmerising. Makes you feel so...humble...?

Testify! thumbsup.gif

I have heard some talk of it being bought and being run by private groups. I'll try and find an article about it.

They are developping a new one, that's for sure, read about it a while ago.

Anyway...f*ck, that's beautiful...everytime I look at those pics I can't imagine it. No, I simply can't. I know it's there, but if we ever do fly into those faraway regions of space...

Who said Earth is one of the only planets with life and intelligent civilizations? There must be millions.

Somwehow, thinking about this makes me disgruntled. And, counting my bad mood for several days, I've really got to go and make myself some tea. tongue.gif

We should feel very humble on this tiny rock in space. sleep.gif

Amazing pictures! For anyone who's interested in space pictures, NASA has a massive collection of photos in their picture of the day archives.

Astronomy Picture of the Day

And some pretty good ones on their main site Pic of the Day
