For some of us a particular year just stands out from the pack. It could be that something really cool happened that year. You saw a really great movie that opened up your imagination. You bought an album that really impressed you. Your favorite sports team won a Championship. You got you drivers license, voter registration card, or rented your first video. A favorite sibling, cousin, niece or nephew was born. Or it was the year that a date didn't end in complete disaster. It's different for everyone.
biggrin.gif

But one thing that can really make an impression is the number of that year. For some it was 1990. For others it was 1991. The first group think that "0" makes a year cool, while the others all think any year that carries a "1" is cool. You get the idea. Most of us have lived long enough to have experianced at least one or more years represented by the numbers above.

Then there are others who think that the difference between Even and Odd is significant. Separated by only 365 days "1985" and "1986" are regarded very differntly in the minds of those who feel a deeper connection to years that are either Even or Odd.

So after answering the poll would you like to share your favorite year? Perhaps the year you would live over again in a heartbeat...for positive reasons? Or if you think the concept of cool numbers and the relevance of Even vs Odd is silly please explian why.

I like even years preferrable with an 8 (and a 5, but since there's only one vote option...). Next year is supposed to be good.

8 and even. 1998 was a great year for me. And even years are like another step, odd years are like the other foot being brought to where the first foot already is. It's some weird stuff, I know, but this is a weird topic. tongue.gif

Same here. I'm just waiting 'til next year, hoping it'll be completely mine! tongue.gif

8 is usually a very important number in eastern mythologies and philosophies.

Interesting facts about number 8 on Wikipedia

By the way, JR, why don't you post about your lucky number? tongue.gif

I've never really thought about the significance of even or odd numbers, but at one point in my life I studied numerology and though I don't really pay much attention to the significance much any more, I do remember some of the theory, which is similar and sometimes connected with astrology.

The way it works is you would add the numbers of the year up to determine what kind of year it would be.

eg. 2008 = 2 + 0 + 0 + 8 = 10

You always break it down to a number between 1 and 9, using addition again so:

10 = 1 + 0 = 1

another example:

1999 = 1 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 28

then you break it down

28 = 2 + 8 = 10

break it down again

10 = 1 + 0 = 1

The period between 1999 and 2007 represents a 9 year cycle. If you use the same system you'll find that:

1999 = 1
2000 = 2
2001 = 3
2002 = 4
2003 = 5
2004 = 6
2005 = 7
2006 = 8
2007 = 9

Each number represents a different sort of energy, there are positive and negative traits.

1 Creativity, independence, originality, ego, self
2 Empathy, cooperation, consideration, over-sensitivity, co-dependence
3 Artistic expression, sociability, friendliness, superficiality, wastefulness
4 Practicality, application, loyalty, rigidity, repression
5 Freedom, adaptability, travel, inconsistency, abuse of senses
6 Love, responsibility, understanding, meddling, jealousy
7 Spirituality, mental analysis, wisdom, fault finding, suppression
8 Executive ability, management, power, materiality, unscrupulousness
9 Artistic genius, humanitarianism, romance, emotionalism, dissipation
11 Intuition, idealism, invention, insensitivity, fanaticism
22 Practical idealism, material mastery, viciousness

You can use the system for names, birthdays, years, street addresses, etc. Each letter has a number equivalent and there are two systems for that. I won't go into it here, you can check out references on the internet if your interested, but I'd advise you to use the Chaldean system. It's more accurate, and has ancient roots, based on the original hebrew characters.

As for myself, I would probably pick 1999. It was a year of total freedom. I had a job and an appartment by myself with no other roommates to deal with. I could stay up until 4:00am and play computer games or watch Babylon 5 reruns all night any time I wanted. My future wife was a girlfriend at the time, so I wasn't lonely and I was still playing in a band at the peak of it's skill and popularity.

My numerological number is 5. By birth number equals 5. A majority of numerically applicable things in my life, such as important dates, all equal 5.

I can't say for sure if it's my lucky number, or the opposite, but it is the number that occurs in my life most often.

Five is a very adventurous number, sometimes associated with magic, but can be unpredictable. I've always found that something totally random, like a freak weather storm or a sudden job offer could occur on a 5 day or year.

Have you ever heard of the '23' enigma? It's kind of interesting and I think they even made a movie about it. Here is a quick article on the topic. 23
