Windows Live Update Fails

k so wtf, everytime i log into gfwl it shows 'an update is available', i click it, takes few minutes to install, after that gta iv restarts, and nothing happens, shows update available again (repeat this line 10000+ times)

what is the problem?

GFWL is garbage, that's what.

I would try uninstalling it and downloading the up to date client.

how can I uninstall it? i mean i can't find the place where it is installed..

3: find GTA IV
4: uninstall
5: ?????
6: profit!

Uninstalling GTA IV should not uninstall GFWL. It's a separate application.

i did everything dragunov said, although there was still another update, it almost succeeded but this error came in and everything failed:

hi guys, i am having the exact same problem as the user above me. i tried everything. any fix on this?

You can also get updates for windows live through regular windows update. Try installing the latest version from there.

i checked the windows updates and couldnt find such update. but i did download and insatll it manually from internet

In windows update it should be under optional updates. Anyway so you downloaded it manually, did it work?

yes i downloaded it manually, and it didnt work. it tries to load an update itself at the location mark posted. see the error message regarding network path. i have the same

Ok. Hmm this is a tricky one. Well an absolute last resort would be to an attempt to remove it manually but I wouldn't recommend that.

But if it fails don't come complaining to me.

Also this can't be just you two who have this problem. Aren't there any other websites with info about this?

what do you mean remove manually? you mean Live? i got nothing to loose, so might aswell try it.

I am currently active at 2-3 more forums, and still waiting. To be honest i am not sure how to search google effectivly for my problem. I type in "gta IV live problems" etc, maybe you know more?

Yeah I mean remove Live. I don't know where it's installed and if that's even possible. Does it only show the message posted earlier or does it also give you an error code. If it does that would be really helpful since you could then just google the error code.

negative, only error message about gta iv stopped working. nothing else. i send a pm to mark, maybe he fixed it. hope he responds

yeah? how? because i removed xlive from my computer, and then i deleted gta from my pc. then i redownloaded it from steam, then tried again. but didnt work. did you delete the folders in steam to?

Sweet. Well doesn't really matter how, as long as it works. But I've never quite understood what you need to play online. Is it free? And what Live subscription do I need?
